All Souls Young Adults seeks to be one of the most “spiritually hospitable” young adult communities in New York City through social gatherings, service projects, and spiritual growth opportunities.
Every season of life—whether that of an individual or a group—is characterized by questions. In late 2007 and the early part of 2008, the young adults community was answering the question, “How do we become a welcoming, cohesive community?” As we regularly drew 25-35 for Sunday brunches and other activities, the group moved on to a new query: “How do we deepen our spiritual connections to one another?” As a result, the group developed a bimonthly midweek event called “Food and Fellowship” to create space for such connections via a shared meal and a structured small group spiritual/philosophical discussion led by various young adults. This event was arguably our greatest success of 2008, regularly drawing 12-18 participants. Food and Fellowship also inspired a five-week Credo Workshop series in the fall.
The young adults continue to build our social connections as well through the annual Frost Valley retreat, an additional in-house Bagel Brunch on the third Sunday of each month, “Cringe Festival” parties, and other outings. In addition, young adults volunteer at Monday Night Hospitality and play roles as ushers and religious education teachers in the wider church community.
If you are interested in becoming part of our community, here are four suggestions:
1. Coffee Hour. Go downstairs after the 11:15 service and look for us; we will probably introduce ourselves first, though.
2. Brunches. We go out to a nearby restaurant on the first Sunday of each month and have a post-Coffee Hour Bagel Brunch on the third Sunday of each in the church building.
3. Food and Fellowship. Two Wednesdays per month, we gather for a free meal and some structured discussion about spiritual topics.
4. Facebook. Visit and join our group at here. The site includes our latest calendar of events as well.
