EDITOR’S CORNER

A picture of what the Fall of 2001 was like in our church would have had to be painted by an Impressionist, for the images are sketchy and disjointed. Or perhaps it would be a confusing tapestry through which the threads of ordinary All Souls life were woven reassuringly in their accustomed way. Events scheduled long before the events of 9/11 took place as planned and, in spite of the pall hanging over the city, could be attended and enjoyed. The article "Nine-One-One" describes the unusual events that mostly took place in September. And what we hope will become a regular feature about the outside activities of our ministers is certainly much longer than it might be in future editions because of the special demands imposed on their time during these stressful months. But there was also an opportunity to be joyful as we celebrated the twenty-fifth year here of Walter Klauss, our Minister of Music, enjoyed the Jazz concert for the benefit of the Booker T. Washington Learning Center, and attended potluck suppers, lectures and discussion groups, and Christmas festivities. Some of those activities are briefly discussed in the article "In the News at All Souls." This issue's "Who We Are" feature puts a spotlight on one of our very successful woman scientists. The article "Becoming Committed," about formally joining All Souls, discusses attempts to find new ways of integrating new members into our congregation.

This issue of the Quarterly tries to capture bits and pieces of the many events in what would have been in any case, one of our most active quarters.
