EDITOR’S CORNER

The beginning of the church year in September was first marked by the somber commemoration of 9/11/2001. The sanctuary was open all day for candle lighting and the day ended with a solemn service of remembrance. The somber mood continued through the Fall because the failing economy, job losses and war talk dominated the news. These concerns were reflected in a number of programs offered such as Rev. David Robb's four lectures about a "just war", the Women's Alliance evening program about the heroic women at Ground Zero and the March to Washington.

Nevertheless, in a season dominated by holiday celebrations, there were also many joyous gatherings, including a Seder, Thanksgiving Dinner and the Christmas Pageant, to name only a few.

The Women's Gift Table raised $1400 for outreach and on Anniversary Sunday, a plaque for Dr. Walter Donald Kring, our eighth minister, was dedicated during the 11:15AM Service, followed by the traditional Anniversary Sunday reception hosted by the Deacons. The Women's Alliance Christmas Tea was also well attended. All these occurred over and beyond the multitude of regular programs competing for meeting spaces on all Sundays and on many weekday evenings too.
