BEYOND THE CHURCH DOORS:
PART OF AN ONGOING SERIES OF COLUMNS ABOUT THE ACTIVITIES OF OUR MINISTERS OUTSIDE OF ALL SOULS
—by Lois Chazen

FORREST CHURCH
Forrest had a busy Fall speaking around the country on a book tour for his latest book, The American Creed: A Spiritual and Patriotic Primer.

The forthcoming March-April edition of the Unitarian Universalist Magazine will feature a cover story by Forrest on Ralph Waldo Emerson. Forrest has also contributed a chapter, "From Nationalism to Patriotism," to a book entitled Spiritual Perspective on America as a Superpower, to be published in March. Among Forrest's upcoming speaking engagements are:

  • February 6—Keynote address on Religious Educators for the New York Metro District of the UUA at the Community Church of New York.
  • February 15—Keynote speaker at the Annual Meeting of the Northwest District of the UUA in Moscow, Idaho.
  • March 3—Unity Sunday address, Unitarian Universalist Church of Salt Lake City, Utah (multi-church gathering).
  • April 5—Keynote speaker at the Annual Meeting of the Massachusetts Bay District of the UUA at the Arlington Street Church in Boston, Massachusetts.
  • May 4—Unity Sunday address at the Unitarian Universalist Society Church of Syracuse, New York (multi-church gathering).
  • June 19—Major address: "Born Again Unitarian Universalist," at the UUA General Assembly in Boston, Massachusetts.

GALEN GUENGERICH
Galen's proposal for his doctoral dissertation has been accepted and an initial draft has been completed. He says that he plans to examine certain aspects of the works of John Rawls, Paul Tillich and Alfred North Whitehead in proposing his theory of justice in terms of modern situations of pluralism.

JAN CARLSSON-BULL
Jan spends most of her time supervising programs within the church doors, training seminarians, counselling and preaching (her Blessing of the Animals service this Fall was a great success). Outside the church, she continues to be active on a number of UUA and New York Metro District committees, including the UU Commission on Social Witness, the New York Metro District Program Committee for the Ministers Association, the Planning Committee of the Metro District for the District UUA Annual Meeting and as a Board Member of the UU Trauma Response Ministry. She is also serving on a UU Social Witness Review Task Force convened by Moderator Diane Olsen in Boston.
