EDITOR’S CORNER

Education seems to have been one of the prevailing topics at All Souls during late summer and early spring—Education and the Arts. The Arts included music as reported in the article about the successful Musica Viva Tour to Paris and the free concert offered at All Souls by Walter Klauss and the choir to give everyone at the church a taste of what had been a fabulous experience across the ocean. Of course, ISite, the play sponsored by a number of committees and task forces must also be considered under that heading.

ISite, in fact, can also be counted under the “Education” heading since it was offered to educate church members about the struggles of Americans of Islamic heritage. Continuing the Education theme, the Historical Society devoted its annual Bellows Lecture to the great educator Horace Mann, who lived and worked during the time of Bellows. The UUSC at All Souls also chimed in, beginning a voter registration and voter education drive for this election season. The Women’s Alliance contributed to the topic with its Angie Henry Utt Lecture by City Council Education Committee Chair, Eva Moskowitz, and its upcoming Spring Luncheon featuring Bank Street College President, Dr. Augusta Souza Kappner, who will also speak on education. A look at the activities of Adult Education Director David Robb certainly rounds out our education theme this winter.

Meanwhile, other church activities continued at a brisk pace. The Peace Task Force celebrated its part in the successful City effort to make New York a civil-liberty-free zone and our outreach efforts were once again assured financial wherewithal with the successful annual Heart & Souls Auction in February. Stephen Lash, auctioneer extraordinaire, is also the subject of our “Who We Are” article.
