| REVIEW OF SUMMER 2006 PUBLISHED FALL 2006 |
|
EDITORS CORNERThe summer of 2006 will be remembered not only for all the bad news from Iraq and the sudden fierce war between Lebanon and Israel, but also as one of the rainiest and hottest in New York City weather history. When the thermometer rose to a record-breaking 100 degrees on two consecutive Sundays, a wise decision was made to hold church services in the air-conditioned ambience of Reidy Friendship Hall. The fact that on the second occasion, more people attended church than during normal summer services, attested to the fact that the part of the congregation that summers in the city truly appreciated the move. In the chameleon-like space of Reidy Friendship Hall, which can be transformed for almost any kind of occasion, the services were dignified, familiar and spiritually acceptable. Although many people were away during the summer weeks, a great deal of activity still filled the church spaces, including the many rental tenants who contribute to our financial well-being. This issue of the Quarterly is devoted, as usual, to the Unitarian Universalist General Assembly, serving as the vehicle for the official GA reports filed by our All Souls delegation. A number of regular church groups continued their normal weekly activities. See page 32 for a sampling of what was going on. During the next few weeks, until the start of the regular church year, the activity level will increase as groups begin planning for their fall calendars. —Marietta Moskin
