| REVIEW OF Fall 2006 PUBLISHED WINTER 2006-2007 |
|
EDITORS CORNERThe event that overshadowed everything that happened at All Souls this fall was the sudden illness of our minister, Dr. Church, and the thoughts of everyone in the congregation have been with him as he battles his way to recovery. Nevertheless, the calendar of this church has been as full as ever from opening Sunday through the year-end holidays. The schedule has been crowded with lectures, adult education events, parties and outreach activities, some of which are recorded in this issue. Many others however, have not been “reviewed” in these pages and the Quarterly continues to urge those who run or participate in those events to send us comments and reports to share with the rest of the congregation. One event that has been fully celebrated this year is Christmas, with not only the annual Christmas Pageant but with no less than four separate Christmas Eve services tailored to the interests of all, from the youngest to the oldest. The fact that Dr. Church participated briefly in the evening services was a special bonus. Before that, the Jewish holidays were commemorated with a Seder and other services, and Thanksgiving was joyfully celebrated with a delicious dinner for many All Souls members. This fall has also seen the inauguration of a new mid-week service led by the Rev. Cheryl Walker as well as a number of new groups and organizations such as the Media and Entertainment Professional Group, a Bible Study Group, an Emerson Reading Group, and the still to be formally inaugurated group called Adventures of Ideas to explore topics of spirituality, ethics, psychology, science and anthropology. A rich menu of spiritual and intellectual nourishment indeed, offered to our members to sample! Meanwhile, we are looking forward to a happy, healthy and peaceful 2007 for everyone. —Marietta Moskin In future issues of the Quarterly, we would like to highlight special achievements in the lives of our members: books, articles, awards, performances, etc. Please let us know about your recent achievements, creative or otherwise.
