UUSC: HONORING THE SHARPS, DRUMBEAT FOR DARFUR
In January,
the US House of Representatives and the Senate passed a resolution honoring
Martha and Waitstill Sharp for their work for the Unitarian Universalist
Service Committee (UUSC) in saving Jewish children from the Holocaust in
wartime France. In their resolution, House and Senate members recognized
that work like that of the Sharps is still desperately needed today, particularly
in Darfur where genocide is still raging. The UUSC has launched a campaign
called “Drumbeat for Darfur” to move this issue up the list
of priorities for the new Congress. For more information on the historic
work of the Sharps and the current efforts on behalf of Darfur, see: http://www.uusc.org.
