Galen Guengerich, Senior Minister

Galen Guengerich is Senior Minister of All Souls Unitarian Church, an historic congregation located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City. He is the tenth person to hold this position in the congregation’s 194-year history. He was educated at Franklin and Marshall College (BA, 1982), Princeton Theological Seminary (M.Div., 1985) and the University of Chicago (PhD, 2004). He is author of God Revised: How Religion Must Evolve in a Scientific Age (Palgrave Macmillan) and writes a regular column on “The Search for Meaning” for Psychologytoday.com, as well as writing occasionally for Huffington Post and for FaithStreet.

Eileen Macholl, Executive Director

Eileen has dedicated her career to the integration of practical and creative support for professionals in the fields of education, cross-cultural understanding, theology and the arts. For the last 15 years Eileen served as the CFO at Auburn Theological Seminary, a multi-faith leadership training institute where her responsibilities included the oversight of finance, accounting, human resources, facilities, information technology, legal and risk management. Prior to that she served as the Director of Finance and Administration at the World Music Institute for 10 years and as the Associate Director of Summer Programs and Special Events at Barnard College for the preceding 9 years.

Eileen holds graduate degrees from both Fordham University (MBA in management and marketing, 1991) and Columbia University (M.A. in ethnomusicology, 1985). Her undergraduate degree is from Sarah Lawrence College (B.A. in music and anthropology, 1980).


Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez 
Music Director


Alejandro is a conductor, pianist, and composer born in Guadalajara, Mexico. He came to the U.S. to study music in the Shenandoah Valley under a full scholarship and later in Austin, where he received his Master and Doctor of Music degrees from the University of Texas. He continued his post-doctoral studies at the University of Maryland, and served as Director of Music for the Westmoreland Congregational UCC Church in Bethesda. He is also the Artistic Director, co-founder and conductor of the New Orchestra of Washington. Alejandro has been hailed by The Washington Post as a conductor that conducts "with the incisive clarity of someone born to the idiom." David Robb
Assistant Minister for Adult Education


David Robb is Assistant Minister for Adult Education and Scholar-in Residence at All Souls. His primary responsibility as a member of the ministerial staff is for planning, implementing, and coordinating the adult education programs of the congregation. In addition to his work at All Souls he is also a Psychotherapist and Pastoral Counselor with a practice in Manhattan, and is an Associate of Kenwood Psychological Services.

Richard Leonard
Minister Emeritus


Richard Leonard is Minister Emeritus at All Souls Church. He was ordained at Union Church in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn as a Congregational minister and took the position of Director of Youth Choirs at the same church. He was made a Minister Emeritus of All Souls Church in September, 1997. Over his career, he has married over 4000 couples from all over the world, 300 of whom, live in Japan today.

Tracy Sprowls
Interim Minister for Religious Education


Rev. Tracy Sprowls has served our Unitarian Universalist congregations for 26 years as an ordained minister and as a volunteer. She was the minister of the First Unitarian Society of Plainfield, NJ from 2009 until 2016. She was the Religious Education Minister at the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, NJ, from 2005 until 2009. She served as Associate Minister for the Community Church of New York from 2003 until 2005, and as Parish Minister at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Montgomery, Alabama from 1999 to 2003. She holds a Master of Divinity degree and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the New York Theological Seminary (NYTS).

Currently, she serves on the Board for the UU Legislative Ministry of New Jersey and the Southeast UU Summer Institute (SUUSI). She also serves on the Board of The Sienna Project whose mission is to build schools in the rural Mayan villages of Guatemala. She and her son helped build one such school in February, 2009.



Pamela Patton 
Director of Pastoral Ministries


Pamela is pursuing a second career in ministry. She is currently an M.Div. candidate at Union Theological Seminary, and she is working toward certification in chaplaincy. She also studies Tibetan Buddhism at the Shantideva Meditation Center. She has completed clinical units at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and St. Luke's Hospital. She also completed a year of chaplaincy training at the NY Zen Center for Contemplative Care. Pamela served as All Souls Student Minister in 2013-14, and she continued to serve as All Souls Pastoral Associate in 2014-16. Prior to starting her career in ministry, Pamela worked in technology for 15 years. 

Pamela holds an M.A. in Education and Computing from Teachers College and a B.S. from Tufts University (in Math and English). Pamela has been coming to All Souls since 1995. She lives in Manhattan with her husband and her three children.


Mario Hardy 
Events Director


Mario comes to All Souls after spending the previous 4 years as Metro NY Events Director for Pernod Ricard USA/Legacy Marketing Partners. Preceding that, Mario served as the National Program Director for the Central Committee for Conscientious Objectors , as well as being a board member of the National Interreligious Service Board for Conscientious Objectors and the War Resisters League National Committee. As Creative Director for Sage Productions for 12 years, Mario conceptualized and produced benefit concerts for regional/national social change non-profit organizations. Residing in the People’s Republic of Brooklyn, NYC, Mario enjoys spending time with his partner, 3 children, and 2 cats.

Betty Jeanne Rueters-Ward,
Program Director for Young Adult, Advocacy, and Outreach Programs


Betty Jeanne is a lifelong Unitarian Universalist with a multi-religious background, whose personal mission is to empower leaders of all ages to grow spiritually while making social change. Her work has included ministry, community organizing, writing, teaching and training, coaching, and non-profit management. Betty Jeanne has provided leadership for all levels of Unitarian Universalism. She has served on staff at the Unitarian Universalist Association's denominational headquarters; mobilized faith-based campaigns for the Legislative Ministry in California; and lead the Young Adult Ministries at the congregation at Shelter Rock, where she hosted a national leadership development training for young adults attended by All Souls members and staff. Betty Jeanne also serves as an off-site member of the faculty of Starr King School for the Ministry, the Unitarian Universalist seminary in Berkeley, CA.
